What the programme includes:


A structured programme, led by Lisa a qualified physiotherapist and creator of Mind and Movement Physiotherapy.  Combining a cognitive behavioural approach with exercise for patients with low back pain of more than 6 weeks with or without leg pain. Maximising long term improvement in physical activity and function. 

Key features 

  • 1 x 60-minute individual session 

  • 6 x 90-minute group-based sessions 

  • Patient education and self-management skills, such as graded activity (through Physiotherapy) and goal setting: includes a workbook.

  • Deliverable in various settings

  • Minimal equipment required


Research has shown that using group cognitive behavioural approach to pain significantly reduced disability and pain at 12 months, and significantly improved quality of life and satisfaction (Lamb et al, 2010).

The latest evidence shows that cognitive behavioural programmes yield greater changes in long term patient outcomes (e.g. pain, disability) when combined with, or compared to, any other guideline-based treatment (e.g. manual therapy, exercise) (Richmond et al, 2015).
